Observing the modern furniture landscape, the designers identified a gap in solutions that cater to the changing work habits. The rise of digital tools and mobile devices has fundamentally altered how people work and study. Eget is their response to this shift, a desk designed to seamlessly integrate these tools into a workspace, enhancing the interaction between users, their tools, and furniture.
What sets Eget apart is its adaptability and interactive features. The desk allows users to reorganize their space and create a personalized ambiance with adjustable light and sound settings. It combines a wooden tabletop with an open drawer underneath, offering ample space while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. The desk is a product of meticulous design and high-quality materials, reflecting the designers' commitment to quality and user experience.
The desk was manufactured using traditional and sustainable procedures in a local carpentry in Barcelona. The materials used include oak wood and lacquered finishes in matte white. The design also incorporates accessories such as a magnetic board laminated with PET, a sound panel made of PET containing 60% of recycled plastic, and an aluminium injected LED table lamp lacquered in white.
Eget's technical specifications are a testament to its thoughtful design. The desk includes a wireless charger and a hidden connection system with four USB ports and four plugs. It also features a built-in magnetic board and a motion-sensitive light with various intensity settings. The desk also includes a removable acoustic separator, allowing users to switch between a cocooned environment and an open one.
The project started in November 2017 in Barcelona and was completed in April 2018. The finished product was exhibited at Ventura Future, an exhibition space located in Lambrate Design District, during the Milan Design Week 2018. The design research behind Eget was driven by the need to adapt conventional furniture to new working habits and the use of new technologies and digital devices. The designers also explored interactive design and its ability to adapt to the user's needs.
The challenges faced during the design process included integrating all the necessary elements for a tech-focused workspace while maintaining a spacious working and storage area. The designers also aimed to ensure an interaction between the product and the user, making the desk as customizable as possible. The aesthetics of the piece were also a priority, with the goal of creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere to work in.
